Are you a would-be video interviewer or podcaster? Have you been wondering about how to get started but worried that equipment or software may be complicated and expensive? The good news is that creating your video interview or podcast is actually quite simple using a program you probably already use – Skype! This is actually how we record our podcast show every week and we find it very easy to use.
Here’s what you need to get going with Skype recording…
You will need software to enable Skype recording. There are a couple of great programs we like, depending on what type of device you are using.
For Mac – Call Recorder for Skype
For PC (with a Mac version too) – Vodburner
One of the cool things about this software is that both programs allow you to edit the recordings so that if necessary, you can cut pieces or add elements such as subtitles. For video, you are able to edit so that you have side by side footage of interviews, for example. When we edit, we add in audio buffers to the beginning and end of our podcast. These are a good idea for continuity if you have a regular show.
Both of these recording programs allow you to save as an MP3 file, this is what we do when creating our podcasts as from there, the file is easily uploaded to iTunes, Soundcloud or where ever else you might have your podcasts.
There you have it! Easy! And no expensive equipment required. Both programs offer a free trial, so you can easily test them out to see if they’ll work for you…
