Welcome to podcast #99! In this episode we’re talking about the importance of mentors – who changed our lives? For anyone who is on the path to success, good mentors play a key part!
What did Heather Porter and Andrew McCauley learn this week?
Heather enjoyed the whole Australia Day experience this year. When she got up she found her whole neighbourhood had Australian flags stuck into their front lawns. On the back was a tiny sticker saying it was from Ray White Real Estate – good brand awareness! They also did something for Halloween last year where they put packages in letterboxes to allow people to display whether or not they were a “Halloween House”, so they have found a great way to promote themselves and tie in with holidays while creating good will in the community.
Andrew heard a stat recently stating that pretty soon, the wealthiest 1% of the world will own 50% of the total wealth. There’s definitely a money game, and once you know how to play it you are can set yourself up to continue growing!
Wayne Dyer
Heather went to Hawaii at 18 when she graduated and was given the book “You’ll See It When You Believe It” by Wayne Dyer. It had a huge influence on her and she still follows his work today. One of the key things he teaches is that your thoughts expand into your reality – therefore if you’re thinking that a certain client is “horrible”, that will pretty soon become all-consuming!
Rod Clark
Rod was one of Andrew’s first bosses and taught him the business side of hospitality, really getting down to the figures. He has taken those lessons with him into business (including how to use Excel!) and what to look for in a business from the standpoint of profits.
Tony Robbins
Heather’s first job out of university was with Tony Robbins. She worked for Robbins Research International (even though she’d never heard of him before!). Tony taught Heather lessons like “your life is the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with”, which caused her to change her surroundings.
Tony is also on Andrew’s list. He booked tickets to see Tony in Sydney at Unleash The Power Within, back when he was still in hospitality. That was the beginning of Andrew entering into personal development and opening up to those ideas.
Chris Howard
Heather’s life in Australia shifted when the company she worked for went under and she was going to have to leave the country without the company being there to sponsor her visa. She got the opportunity through Universal Events to work with Chris Howard, and live and work on the road. She learnt to think bigger, and to know a lot about branding and business. (That’s also where her and Andrew met!).
Andrew felt an affinity with what Chris Howard teaches and one of his wishes was to travel the world and get paid for it. He got that opportunity also working for Chris Howard and credits his mentorship for teaching him to think big.
James Shramko
Heather came across James while on the road with Universal Events. She loved his no-nonsense approach and his teachings lead her to come off the road and turn to online marketing.
James is also on Andrew’s list. He likes the way James is not “hypey” or egotistical. His advice is actionable and down-to-earth.
Ryan Deiss & Perry Belcher (Digital Marketer)
Andrew has learnt a lot from both of them, with Ryan being very clever and approachable, and Perry being an excellent copywriter and marketer in general.
Heather was also impressed by both of them, their authenticity and how they work together.
Frank Kern
The “godfather” of online marketing. Heather has learnt a lot from him about the power of video and how he manages to let people in without looking scripted.
Robert Kiyosaki
Andrew read “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” back in 1998 and credits it with changing the way he thought and leading to the changes in his life from that point. It taught him a lot about thinking about money and mindset.
