Hi everybody! Welcome to podcast #69! We are uncovering ‘party starters’ and how they can grow your online business. It’s been a fun week, shooting Make It Simple TV and meeting great people.
What did Andrew and Heather learn this week?
Andrew discovered that Amazon and Twitter have got together to add functionality that allows you to add items to a shopping cart via tweet! When you have those two synced and use #AmazonShoppingCart in your tweets, it will automatically add the item you tweet about to your cart. Will any of you use this?
Heather came across a great tool for encouraging people to test out your website. Interact is a great way to set up a quiz and links with your email provider such as Mailchimp. You can tailor results so that people click on a link to a certain landing page based on what their results are. A great opt-in tool!
Party Starters: Grow Your Online Business!
What the heck do we mean by party starters? Well, we think “opt-in” is a bland kind of term – in reality, whatever it is that you give away to people you want to give them a great taster of what your business is about. Something that attracts them to you and gets them to ‘join the party’. (Think about your website as being like your house – you want people to stick around and hang out with you!).
If you think of an opt-in more like a party-starter, you will start to devote the same kind of energy as you would for party-planning into your giveaways. You wouldn’t serve nasty snacks from the back of your fridge at your party! We would like to see everyone lift their standards online – how would you invite someone into your house?
Ideas
The free eBook is just not grabbing people (could this be the no-name cracker of party food?). Here are some alternatives;
- Digital work book.
- Free eCourse or workshop. (Don’t make it too long!).
- Cheat sheets and check-lists.
- Scripts (for example sales, emails etc).
- Audio or video recordings. (Again, think about length!). (Check out smartlav.com for a great example of a video that gives ideas for product use).
- Info packs.
- Resource lists or ‘rolodexes’.
- Members only content.
- Downloads and printables – manifestos etc.
- Consultations.
